Those who profit from the narrow view of beauty and image in this country:
- Doctors who perform bariatric surgery. (More people die from that surgery than from obesity.)
- Weight loss pill pushers
- Weight loss food pushers (Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, etc)
- Gyms
- Natural food companies and grocery stores
- The self-help industry
- Mental health industry (doctors, pills, counselors, facilities, etc)
- Clothing companies
- Cosmetic companies
- Plastic surgeons
Do you see now why there is no effort to show the truth about the obesity “crisis” myth? There’s too much to lose. In Western civilization, companies don’t make money by making people feel good. Companies make money by making people feel like they’re not good enough or they’re missing out.
But it backfires. A lot of eating *can* be emotional. A lot of shopping is emotional. Too many people own stuff they can’t afford because of the need to fulfill some status quo.
I’m sick of it. It’s time to feel good, America! Good with what we’ve got. There’s a lot to be happy about and it’s time to call out the liars who try to tell us otherwise.
P.S. I’m not saying that those industries above are complete crap. I certainly have benefited from many of them. I’m saying it’s a sign of how out of whack things are. It doesn’t have to be this way – we can treat each other better.
